The Russian Academic Method
What:Artists will receive instruction on Russian Academic alla prima Figure Painting, to include preliminary composition and color sketches. Artists are also welcome to complete the painting without color, and will receive instruction on the methods and process of open and closed grisaille.

Constructive Drawing
The Russian Academic Method
What:
This course will focus on the elements of Constructive Drawing, to include perspective, geometric planes, and linear proportion. Artists will draw from gypsum casts, but while we work from life, we do not copy. We take from nature inspiration which informs the knowledge we have of constructing form. Before we begin a drawing, painting, or sculpture, we must have an image in our minds of what we are going to put down. An understanding and practice of Constructive Drawing gives clarity to that initial image, and freedom within the laws of form. Within the Russian Academic Method, a firm grasp of constructive drawing gives an understanding into the geometric planes of an object and the orientation of those planes relative to light. This understanding is the key to painting in color.
